Education is Important for Massage Therapy Certification

When you want to become a massage therapist, you will need to go through a massage therapy certification program. This is the most important step you need to take towards this profession. They can vary from state to state due to different laws covering the profession. So if you are looking to work in New York, get a certification there.

When you are going to enter a massage therapy certification program, you will learn the basics of the profession. Basic study of this discipline generally includes knowledge in physiology, human anatomy, body mechanics, and kinesiology among other things. What’s great about these programs is that you also get hands on experience in performing what you have learned to make sure that you get it right. Under the supervision of the instructor, students are allowed to perform massages on clients in various clinics all over the country.

In advanced programs, students will learn more than just these techniques. They will also be exposed to the meridian technique, acupuncture, acupressure, myofascial release therapy, and more. Again, this training would include hands on training so that the student will attain experience in performing the said techniques.

Aside from learning massage techniques, students in these programs will also be taught first aid, including CPR. Other schools even teach herbal medicine along with the techniques. Sometimes, even communication skills and business skills are also included in these programs to give the student a well-rounded education. Basically, these programs give all the tools needed to become successful in this profession.

Although mostly governed by state laws, you can also get a national massage therapy certification with the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. This would require five hundred hours of training as well as a pre-attained state licence. This would allow passers to practice in all states.
